Selenite, satin spar, desert rose, and gypsum flower are four varieties of the mineral gypsum; all four varieties show obvious crystalline structure. The four "crystalline" varieties of gypsum are sometimes grouped together and called selenite. All varieties of gypsum, including selenite and alabaster, are composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate (meaning that it has two molecules of water).

In terms of metaphysical properties, selenite is a fantastic energy mover. It aids in moving energy from one place to another. For energy workers in particular selenite helps to open the chakras and aid in the Reiki process, especially with clients who have blockages. Selenite also promotes peace and calm and is a great addition to any meditation room or bedroom. Selenite is generally associated with the higher chakras!
